WHO I AM

My name is Monica Lynn Kelly. I have 20 plus years of successful experience in teaching, curriculum development and support of new teachers in various communities and at various grade levels. These communities include both the military and civilian sectors as well as in Central America. Grade levels include elementary, secondary, and graduate. I homeschool my children as well. I currently am an adjunct faculty member, teaching courses for teacher preparation and Master’s programs at National University and University of Phoenix (currently, online).  I have also have had a  two year adventure in Costa Rica where I have had the opportunity to get back into the classroom as an English /Science teacher, develop courses for students coming in from the states for short term learning, and develop a curriculum map for both years of my stay. I have taught at a charter school (self-directed English class and a project based history class) and currently am teaching via the “Outschool”  Platform.

I’d like to share a little bit about myself, personally. I have a Master of Education with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction from San Diego State University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the same University. I additionally hold a Professional Clear Multiple Subject Teaching Credential (CLAD) from National University with a Supplementary Authorization in Art.

I am an avid swimmer and enjoy time in the ocean daily. Reading, designing jewelry, and collecting sea glass are also hobbies that I look forward to when I have time. I have two wonderful children. They keep me busy (I homeschool) and “on my toes.” Here in San Diego, my husband is a math resource coach for the San Diego Unified School District. This keeps us both communicating about education and collaborating on the newest research. While our hearts are in Costa Rica, living in San Diego has proven to be a well-rounded adventurous place for our family that allows us to pursue our dream of traveling and returning to Costa Rica at least a few times a year.
